The United States Intercollegiate Boxing Association (USIBA) is proud to honor its student-athlete accomplishments both in and out of the ring with its Academic All-American Program! Any USIBA student-athlete which meets the following qualifications shall be entered in to the 2022-2023 Academic All-American Class:
- The student athlete must be a present or former member of USIBA who has competed in the 2023 National Championship Tournament. This includes student-athletes who competed in the 2023 tournament and have since graduated. It also includes students who were registered for the tournament, but were not able to compete due to not having an opponent.
- The student athlete must have completed at least two academic terms as full-time students.
- The student athlete must have a cumulative GPA of 3.4 or higher: Academic All-Americans are broken up into 3 groups: Bronze Tier: 3.40 – 3.59, Sliver Tier: 3.60 – 3.79, Gold Tier: 3.80 – 4.00
- The student athlete must provide a copy of their transcript as proof of their GPA.
The student athlete that meets these qualifications needs to send an email to joab.corey@ucr.edu with the subject line: “USIBA Academic All-American Qualifier” by January 31st, 2024 (the extended deadline). The email should include the student’s academic transcript as an attachment as well as the following information:
- Full Name (as you want it to appear in the Academic All-American Registry)
- School (the college or university you represented when competing at the 2023 USIBA National Championship)
- Major (your current major or area of study)
- Hometown (city, state)
- A short statement (1-3 sentences) about what competing in college boxing has meant to you (please note that this statement along with your name may appear on the USIBA website).
If it has been determined that you meet the eligibility requirements, then your name will be included on the USIBA website as a 2022-2023 USIBA Academic All-American, a distinction you can include on your future resumes and job applications.
Coaches, please encourage your eligible athletes to apply as there is a team Academic All-American award for first and second place that will be awarded at the 2024 Tournament, with each Academic All-American scoring points for your team (3 points for Gold Tier, 2 points for Silver Tier, and 1 point for Bronze Tier).
